Welcome to my blog and the weekly meal plan - Mon 17th July to Sun 23rd July
I'm here. I finally got a blog! I'm not sure how long it will last as I do like getting emails, but this is me making a little start. Here I'll post meal plans, helpful hint and tips, and things I've accomplished or found useful in my day to day efforts to save money.
It doesn't matter what the savings are for - there's an element of using everything in an attempt to reduce food waste and feel like I'm doing something for the environment and reducing the amount in landfill.
So, in an attempt to better use the freezer, I'm having a week of using up and making do, and supplementing in the weekly shop rather than buying from scratch. Here goes:
Mon 17th July - Chicken Curry with Rice. Yes, I do buy a jar of sauce, but that's only because I've not been able to make a sauce I've been happy with. That would be the cheaper option, I know, but jars are convenient and I'm at peace with that.
Tues 18th July - Sweet Chilli Chicken & Noodles. Just a simple stir-fry using bottled sweet chilli sauce to make do, and noodles because, well, noodles! Vegetables to make it go further, and then whatever leftovers there are I'll take for lunch the following day.
Weds 19th July - Fish & Chips (hopefully with a few onion rings)
Thurs 20th July - Reggae-Reggae Wraps with Salad. I'll use some Reggae-Reggae bottled sauce to marinade some bits of chicken, and then cook them and serve in soft wraps with crunchy vegetables and cooling mayo.
Fri 21st July - Toad in the Hole with Baked Beans. A classic. And yes, I know with beans is not the classic way (mash & gravy!) but it's how we prefer it.
Sat 22nd July - Pasta Bolognese with Garlic Bread using cartons of bolognese sauce I froze earlier in the year when I had lots left over. Or if it's nice enough there are a few BBQ bits in the freezer which may get barbecued instead.
Sun 23rd July - Chicken & Stuffing Bake with Roast Potatoes. Chunks of chicken and bacon cooked in a white sauce, the top dotted with chunks of bacon stuffing and then baked until crisp and bubbling underneath. I'll serve it with roasties (as the oven is on it would be rude not to!) and green vegetables. Looking forward to this one!
That's my week ahead planned. The shopping list is written and I should only have to go to the supermarket once - maybe again on Friday to get some bits in for the weekend like milk, etc. I've made an apple and blackberry crumble today which will keep us in pudding for at least the first part of the week - I love doing this so we can have slightly less main and then having a pudding feels like a treat but also fills us up. There's some vanilla ice cream in the freezer so we're all set there. I'll take a picture of it when it's all made.
I'd love to hear what your plans are, and if I can help at all just drop me a comment and I'll try and help out.
Take care xx
